Troubleshooting

Why can’t I see the scanned images? To see the scanned images you must have Adobe Acrobat Reader, which can be down be downloaded here.

The description of the list indicates it’s long, but only part of it comes up. Indeed, some lists were so long they were cut up into a number of sections. Please note that near the top of the document reader there is a box which tells which section you’re viewing. Change that number, and you’ll see the other sections.

How do I search for the name of an individual? Sorry, this can’t be done on the Lists Database. Searches for individuals can be done at the Central Database of Shoah Victim’s Names. What you can find on the Shoah Related Lists Database are lists of names, and often also the scanned image of the lists. You may find a list that includes the name of the person you’re seeking; once you have the list, you’ll need to read it to find the required names.

The “Search” function (binoculars) on the page that displays the document, doesn’t work. That’s because it’s a button from your Adobe Acrobat reader, used to search typed texts. What you see here are scanned images, which cannot be searched.

I’m having trouble downloading the entire list.  This may well be. Since many of the lists are quite long, their digitized image will be quite large. In order to allow rapid viewing of them we have cut each page into a separate file.

If I can’t find a list I need, are there any other options? Yes. Both Yad Vashem and the USHMM have thousands of additional lists in their archival collections. If it’s not urgent, it is recommended that you check again at this site from time to time, to see if the lists you need have been added to the Lists Database.

Is there a plan to put other types of archival documentation online? If so, when?Yes, there is. However, given the extent of the collections and their complexity, this will take time. Launching the Lists Database can be regarded as a pilot project towards putting larger sections of the archives online.
