Place: Locations mentioned in the description of the list, such as the destination of a deportation, or a camp in which the inmates are listed. Locations in the list itself, such as the places of birth of the deportees or inmates, cannot generally be searched. The search will include variant spellings.

Year: Queries containing specified years will bring results such as the date of the event, the date of the creation of the list if it's different from the event itself, and any other date that can be found in the description of the list. A search by year will NOT find dates pertaining to the lives of the individuals in the lists, such as their dates of birth. 

Group Identity: Use this field when searching for non-Jews by nationality, or write "Jewish" if you want to limit your search to lists that have only Jews on them.

General Search: Use this field when searching for information that is descriptive, but not geographic or chronological. Example: "deportation of children".
